"History is a living horse laughing at a wooden horse. History is a wind blowing where it listeth. History is no sure thing to bet on. History is a box of tricks with a lost key. History is a labyrinth of doors with sliding panels, a book of ciphers with the code in a cave of the Saragossa sea. History says, if it pleases, Excuse me, I beg your pardon, it will never happen again if I can help it."

—Carl Sandburg (1878-1967) American writer known for free verse, Smoke and Steel

Volunteer!

Volunteer opportunities at the Cedar Mill and Bethany Libraries and the Second Edition Resale Shop.

vol_shelveThe Cedar Mill Community Library was founded in 1974 by community volunteers. Today it continues to be operated by the CMCL Association. The Cedar Mill and Bethany libraries rely on the efforts of more than 800 volunteers and 70 paid staff members to provide free public library services 7 days a week.

Join us: Volunteers are as important today as they were when the Cedar Mill library was founded. During fiscal year 2008-2009 volunteers contributed 48,944 hours of service - equivalent to 23.5 full-time employees. This makes the Cedar Mill and Bethany Libraries great community libraries!
