Summer Reading 2008 Recap
The summer reading program starts in June and ends mid-August.
4,673 young people “Caught the Reading Bug” and read through the summer keeping up with the most important skill – reading! 3,121 young readers registered at the Cedar Mill Library, and 1,202 registered at the Bethany Branch, and 350 children were able to participate at their childcare locations through the library’s BookShare outreach program. About 52% of those who joined completed the program and were eligible to receive prizes (paperback books, Oaks Park passes, Round Table Pizza coupons, stickers, pencils, and temporary tattoos).
We would like to thank our generous sponsors who made the summer reading program possible. The 2008 Summer Reading Reward Books and programs were made possible by grants, donations and support from: The Cedar Mill Community Library Association, The Brenner Foundation, Portland General Electric, and Wells Fargo. The sponsors countywide for all of Washington County: Oaks Park, Family Fun Center & Bullwinkles, The Standard, State Library, Round Table Pizza, Trail Blazers, Comcast, KUIK, Portland’s CW, The Oregonian, El Hispanic News, alphagraphics, and Washington County Cooperative Library Services.
We also had 86 helpful volunteers donate over 1,416 hours to assist us in signing up and distributing prizes to everyone who joined the program. We couldn’t have done it without them! Thanks!
