More space will aid library patrons

Since its opening in 2007, the Cedar Mill Community Library at Bethany has grown exponentially. Forecast to lend 10,000 items a month, the branch averages 40,000 a month. Story time finds itself at capacity each week, and patrons often face a wait to use the computers.
Peter Leonard, the library's executive director, says the usage reflects the value its community places on reading, education and learning. Leonard says the three retail spaces adjacent the library's 1,800-square-foot venue at 15320 N.W. Central Drive, Suite D-6, will collectively provide 4,600 square feet. The added space will help meet the demand for more shelving, computers and seating.
Leonard says the lease agreement is in place. He also says financial donations are important to help with new furniture, improvements associated with new cabinetry, paint and carpet. He emphasizes that as a nonprofit, "We really rely on the community."
