Summer Reading 2009 Recap
This summer 5,214 young people were “Creative @ their Library” and read through the summer keeping up with the most important skill – reading!
3,355 young readers registered at the Cedar Mill Library, and 1,462 registered at the Bethany Branch, and 397 children were able to participate at their childcare locations through the library’s BookShare outreach program. About 56% of those who joined completed the program and were eligible to receive prizes (paperback books, Oaks Park passes, stickers, pencils, and temporary tattoos).
We would like to thank our generous sponsors who made the summer reading program possible. The 2009 Summer Reading Reward Books and programs were made possible by grants, donations and support from: The Cedar Mill Community Library Association, the Brenner Foundation and Ready to Read funds from the Oregon State Library. Countywide sponsors for all of Washington County are: Oaks Park, Family Fun Center & Bullwinkles, The Standard, State Library, Trail Blazers, Portland Beavers, Portland Timbers, Comcast, KUIK, The Oregonian, El Hispanic News, alphagraphics, Wells Fargo, and Washington County Cooperative Library Services.
We also had 87 helpful volunteers donate over 1,612 hours to assist us in signing up and distributing prizes to everyone who joined the program. We couldn’t have done it without them! Thanks!
