Express Yourself at the Cedar Mill Libraries

Find out about teen summer reading for 2009 at the Cedar Mill Community Library and the Bethany Branch.

Teen Summer Reading 2009

The Summer Reading theme for 2009 is Express Yourself At Your Library.  We have a great incentive program planned and several interesting programs that will allow teens to "Express" themselves too.  Check out the Summer Reading Challenge and events at Cedar Mill and Bethany!

Teen Summer Reading Challenge

To Earn a Reward Book and other reading prizes, follow these steps:

  • Pick up our teen summer reading form.
  • Be in the 6th to 12th grade in September.
  • List 7 or more books you read or listened to this summer on the form.
  • Between July 15st and August 12th, turn in your list at the YS desk or at Bethany and get a reduced price all-day ride bracelet to be used at the Oaks Park Events on Wednesday, August 12th or Thursday, August 20st.
  • Sign up once during the summer at the Summer Reading desks at either library for a Bullwinkle’s Fun Center coupon.

More Prizes!!! Powell’s $25 gift certificates
Enter a drawing for Powell’s gift cards.  You can enter once every week from June 15th to August 12th.  You don’t have to be present to win.

Guitar Hero, DDR, board games and more

TEEN FRAME CRAFT @ BETHANY
Sunday, August 9th
2-4 PM
Bring in your old magazines and a shoebox lid if you have one and create a great looking frame for your pictures.

TEEN MOVIE NIGHT
Friday, June 19th
6-8 PM
Come watch the popular movie based on Stephenie Meyer’s hit book about vampires.

JAMOLOGY 101
Sunday, June 28th 2-4 PM
Bring your guitar and get tips from two local guitarists, Paul Tyo and Donna Moreno, on how to mix your sound with other players, how to form a band, how to define your sound and experiment with equipment that will change your sound too.  Best yet, meet other teens interested in music.  This program is for intermediate players.  You need to know basic guitar chords and how to tune your guitar.  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  Call 503-644-0043 x112 to register.

JAZZ UP YOUR JEANS & T-SHIRTS
Sunday, July 12th
2-4 PM
Bring your jeans and/or T-shirts and we’ll provide the materials to freshen them up or make them stand out.

COMPUTER MUSIC PROGRAMMING
Sunday, August 2nd
2-4 PM
Learn the art of making music with a computer with instructor Peter Musselman. Turn any computer into a drum machine, synthesizer or sampler using PureData, an open source programming language.  Participants can bring an optional USB-compatible storage device to save their work on.  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  Call 503-644-0043 x112 to register.

TEEN GAMING NIGHT
Friday, August 14th
6-8 PM
Join us for DDR, Guitar Hero, board games and more as we end our summer reading program in with games and snacks.

Most events held at the Cedar Mill
Community Library in the upstairs meeting room. Events with the “@ BETHANY” tag will be held at the Terrace Plaza Community Rm. near the Bethany Library.
