Bethany Expansion Update 5/15/09
May 15, 2009 --- Workers are busy adding finishing touches to the new library - so library users should be enjoying the new space in just a few short weeks.
The new library has more than twice the floor space of the existing library which means more space for readers, books, and computers. A larger open space for children gives more room to spread out and read.
An additional self-checkout station will be installed and there will be a counter by the front window with stools where users can power their laptops. Free wireless access will be available as well as library provided Internet stations.
The space for held materials will double and staff work space will increase to keep up with the growth in use and to allow more volunteers to work at peak times.
In an effort to make green choices, carpeting and painting are no-v.o.c. and we are re-using shelving, furniture and fixtures. Of course having a local library in Bethany reduces the energy needed to visit more distant libraries.
Unlike city financed libraries, this expansion is being done without any tax funding. Private fund raising, including earnings from the library’s Second Edition Resale shop, combined with generous support from Central Bethany Development is making this new space possible.
The library will add more tables, chairs, window benches, and computers when more funds are received. Donations for the library expansion can be made at the library or click here

The library will hold a dedication celebration (and Second Birthday Party) on Saturday, July 18 at 10 am
