Lending Rules and Policies
Loan Periods and Limits
-
Three weeks for most materials, including books, music and audiobooks, CDs, CDROMs, videocassettes and magazines. DVDs are an exception.
- DVDs circulate for seven days.
- Check-outs on DVDs are limited to 5 per library card.
Renewals
- You may renew most library materials twice, as long as the item has not been reserved by another patron. You may renew your library materials in person, on-line or by calling us at 644-0043.
- Interlibrary Loan (ILL) items, those borrowed for you from other library systems across the country, can be renewed once. Please contact a staff member to renew the item for you. (Read more about our Interlibrary Loan service.)
Late and Lost Material Fee Policies
-
Our basic late fine rate is 15 cents per day ($0.15) for each overdue item, with a maximum accrual of $5.00 per item. There are a few exceptions to the rule, primarily:
-
The fine for late DVDs is $1.00 per day.
-
Beginning March 1, 2009, if an Inter-Library Loan (ILL) item becomes overdue by 1 week, your account will be charged the default price of $100.01 and a non-refundable $5 processing fee. If the item is returned, the default price will be waived, but the processing will not be waived. If the item is not returned, the actual replacement cost of the item will be charged. This is the same procedure as a regular Cedar Mill Library item that goes to lost.
-
Fines begin on the day after the due date. Households with overdue materials will be notified on the 5th day following the date due. Bills will be sent at 25 days. If items are not returned, the account may be given to a collection agency.
Fees and/or fines in excess of $9.99 will result in suspension of borrowing privileges at Cedar Mill Community Library and all other member libraries in Washington County. Fees will be charged for lost materials and items that are damaged. This suspension remains in effect until the amount owed is less than $10.00.
Cedar Mill Community Library is not responsible for any damage to home electronic equipment encountered during the use of Library audio tapes, video tapes, compact disks, or cassettes.
